How We Support SEN Students at Maidstone Learning Centre
Every Child Deserves to Feel Understood and Supported
At Maidstone Learning Centre, we believe no child should feel left behind or left out.
That’s why our SEN (Special Educational Needs) support is not just an “add-on”, it’s at the heart of what we do.
Whether a child needs help with reading, managing anxiety, or building confidence in maths, our team is trained, experienced, and passionate about creating learning experiences that work for them.
Who We Support
Our SEN provision welcomes children with a wide range of needs, including:
• Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
• Dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties
• Anxiety and school refusal
• ADHD and focus challenges
• Delayed speech, language, or processing skills
• Low self-esteem or emotional needs
We support children aged 5 to 16 whether they’re in school, flexi-schooled, or learning at home.
What Makes SEN Support at MLC Different?
Individualised Approach – No two learners are the same, so no two sessions are either.
Small Groups or 1-to-1 – We offer both, depending on the child’s needs and comfort.
Calm, Welcoming Environment – We reduce sensory stress and create safe learning spaces.
Paced to Suit the Child – We follow the learner’s lead while building confidence and skill.
Consistent, Trusted Adults – Familiar faces help reduce anxiety and build strong relationships.
We meet children where they are emotionally and academically.
What a Session Might Look Like
• Gentle, positive welcome to settle in
• Visual timetable or structure for the session
• Hands-on, multi-sensory tasks (reading, writing, spelling, or maths)
• Brain breaks, movement, or sensory regulation as needed
• Lots of praise for effort, not just results
• Time for student voice: “What went well today?”
Some sessions focus on curriculum catch-up. Others build emotional regulation, routines, or confidence. Every child’s goals are different and we support them all.
Working With Parents and Professionals
We work hand-in-hand with families and, where appropriate, schools and external professionals.
We:
Communicate regularly with parents
Share updates and strategies
Support EHCPs or learning plans
Welcome professional input and recommendations.
Adapt as children’s needs evolve
Parents are never alone in this; we’re here every step of the way.
With the Right Support, Every Child Can Shine
At MLC, we don’t just focus on what a child can’t do, we build on what they can.
With compassion, patience, and the right tools, we’ve seen children grow in confidence, rediscover joy in learning, and feel proud of who they are.
Because every child deserves to feel safe, supporteds and successful.
