Exam Tips!
The Night Before…
- Relax – get confident! It’s not the end of the world.
- Layout your clothes ready so you are not rushing the next morning.
- Get a good night of sleep. Don’t eat lots of sugar before bed.
- Switch off your screens early so your brain can wind down.
- Try reading a good book to help you to drift off to sleep.
The Morning of the Exam…
- Wake up early to give your brain time to turn on and get to full speed.
- Have a healthy breakfast.
- Enjoy a relaxed conversation with your family.
- Get your brain going by practicing your tables.
- Make sure you have everything you need, then check again to be sure!
Before the Exam
- Go to the toilet, even if you don’t feel like you need to. Having to take a toilet break during the exam will waste valuable time.
At the Exam…
- Before you start the test, pause and remind yourself “I can pass this test!”.
- Take some deep breaths to put yourself mentally in control.
- Breathe – slow down – don’t rush. Your goal is to get all the questions that you can right – not to be the first to finish the test.
- Always use pencil never pen so that you can correct any errors.
- Make sure your answers are very clear, the answer sheets will be marked by a machine and if your answer is not clear it will be marked wrong.
- Each question is worth 1 point so do not waste time on difficult questions. If you can’t work out what the question means or what the answer might be, move on and come back to it.
- The Kent Test is multiple choice, so do not leave any questions unanswered.
- Do not get distracted by those around you, just concentrate on your exam paper
- In your reasoning paper, don’t worry if you don’t finish all of the questions. The examiners have given you more problems than you can possibly do in the time given. Just be sure you read the questions and answers all properly and don’t rush it!
Above all – have fun!
